I read this morning from Famous Liars and the Lies They Told, at www.healthdiaries.com what struck me was not so much that James Frey, Stephen Glass, Jayson Blair, Janet Cooke, and Jack Kelley: had been listed as well-known people whose fame had come based on lies. I was taken by surprise by the Pulitzer Prize being returned, movies which had been commissioned after the truth of their devious past had come to light and how little other than a public scolding had really followed once they had been caught.
It was sad, but no bombshell. James, Stephen, Jayson, Janet and Jack are no different than we are as a whole. All of us have at least one chapter of our lives, one day or at least one moment where we would just as soon that no one would even know what we had said or done and how we have shaded the events with just the right words to make it soulnd like we really had no other choice but to lie.
After all, we don't want our words to hurt someone just because they're true ... right?

Earlier today I was reading through an article titled "How to Detect Lies - Body Language" which I found at www.blifaloo.com/info/lies.php. It made me laugh.
I'm not surprised that everything from not making eye contact to stiffness and phony emotions are signs that the person is telling you something other than the truth. None of us tell the truth every moment of every day. We live our lives focused on ourselves and we don't want anybody else to find out.
In some ways, that can't be helped. After all, I'm the only one who truly knows if I'm hungry or if my head hurts. But the more ads I see on the internet or tv or print or hear on the radio, the more I am convinced that I must be the most important person who exists. After all, I am the one who should buy ... you fill in the blank.
And don't try to tell me that's a lie. I'm not defensive. I'm not making wild hand motions. And no, I DID NOT eat the last cookie!
Lies are everywhere around us. Only God has the truth. I'm grateful He is willing to share.

I was fascinated this morning as I considered what another blogger had to say regarding the ways he saw contemporary media shading the truth ... only telling the part of a story they wanted others to hear ... repeating it often enough ... using vivid images to reinforce their point .... The more I read o fthis, the more I was reminded of Satan's common tools used to spread lies.
Now, I am not saying that all media are liars. I have dear friends who are involved in media and they are honest, upright hard workers. But I was reminded that Satan continues to seek to use all methods possible to spread anything but the truth.
